Santa Claus is coming to East Toronto
by Carole Stimmell

Every good tradition has to start sometime, and the Village of East Toronto Christmas Parade’s time has come. On Nov. 9 at 1 p.m., your friends, neighbours (and their pets), community businesses, schools and churches will march up Kingston Road accompanied by a variety of bands and floats.

The theme of the parade is an ‘Old Fashion Christmas’ and will emphasize the history of the Village of East Toronto.

The parade will be hosted by Community Centre 55 which is celebrating the 26th anniversary of its Share-A-Christmas program.

At the conclusion of the parade, participants are invited to a reception at CC55. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there as well as one of his reindeer – other than Hamper that is. Facepainting, cookie decoration and hot cider will be just a part of the fun.

Best of all, you are invited to participate. Entry fees are reasonable. A family can come on board for just $35. If you are a non-profit group, the charge is just $55. Small businesses are $80, and larger firms will be charged $100.

If you sign up before Oct. 31, Community Centre 55 will issue you a charitable tax receipt as a donation to the Share-A-Christmas program.

There will also be prizes awarded. The units who have the most appropriate theme, the best animals, the best band/choir, the funniest group, the best costumes, best automobile and the most imaginative float will all be rewarded.

If you have ever participated in the Beaches Lions Easter Parade you know how much fun it can be. It is a great way to support your community, as well.
