The Beach Citizens of the Year ->

The Beach Citizen of the Year is a Community Centre 55/Toronto Beaches Lions Club/Beach Metro News initiative. Nothing gives a community a better uplift than honouring its heroes. Volunteers are the glue which holds our neighbourhoods together. They keep the sports teams running, allow seniors to stay in their own homes with dignity, assist with local programs for the disadvantaged, preserve our history and do the heavy lifting for a countless variety of good works. Many labour in the background, almost unnoticed – but they would be deeply missed.

Each year, a group of neighbourhood judges meet to review dozens of nominations of people known to have sustained a selfless devotion to the welfare of other people in our Beach community.

The panel of judges select one person as the "Beach Citizen" (BC) of the year. The recipient of the BC is one who has an extraordinary history of community service and exemplifies citizenship.

The person selected as the BC has his/her name cut in a polished black granite tile and the tile is laid in our Millennium Walk of Fame located in our Millennium Garden.

Our Millennium Garden was a Millennium project in partnership with the Toronto Beaches Lions Club and the City of Toronto. The Garden is a place to which people come to reflect. The Millennium Garden also hosts an annual 9/11 ceremony.
